Business Process Re-engineering
Business Process Re-engineering (BPR) is about streamlining what you do.
Isn’t that just re-inventing the wheel? In short, no, it isn’t, though using wheels as an analogy it’s about oiling it for you and helping it turn smoother.
So how do you streamline what I do? We will analyse an existing process, typically involving onsite visits and meeting with the process experts in order to map your process as it currently stands. We can then take this map away, once certified as a true representation of your process, and perform a series of analytical breakdowns on it. This will help identify inefficient stages that could be generating risk, that take too long, are labour intensive or are there but nobody knows why. Any one of these costs you money. We will then present back to you our suggestions for improvement, ranging from removal or simplification through to automation of steps. We will endeavour to provide a business case for each step variance and discus them with you in order to work out which approach to take in order to maximize the benefits. Post BPR implementation we can re-analyse the process in order to validate the benefits.
Removal or simplification I get, but what happens if automation is suggested? Does this mean I need to buy special software? If you use Microsoft Office and undertake the work manually at present, then no, CBS will look to automate what you do already, meaning special software shouldn’t be required. In some instances it has been possible to automate processes to such an extent that the work is done before you even get to the office!
Does successful BPR mean I can reduce my workforce? CBS like to think that successful BPR will provide companies with the capacity to do more with the existing resources, expansion without an increase to the cost base as it were. Besides, freeing up some of your resource, could enable you to undertake your own BPR initiatives.

Process Documenting
Process Documenting is about reducing your exposure to risk.
What risks are there to me? There are several types of risk associated with inadequately documented procedures, ranging from training costs to key person dependencies, all of which could have costs associated.
Ok, so my procedures aren’t documented, how do you do it? We will typically arrange to visit you onsite and then shadow the process expert making our own notes of the process. This exercise will then generate a list of questions that will need further input from you and/or the process expert. We will then observe the process again, ensuring that the notes are correct, before asking the process expert to follow them. Once the notes are confirmed as being accurate, we will then import them to our template and issue them to you in both hard and soft formats.

Management Information
Management Information (MI) is about having the right measures in place, at the right time, to help you run your business.
What measures are good measures? Without knowing the nature of your business we can’t really say. However, some basic measures that work across all relate to costs, revenue and resources. We would need to speak with you to work out what it is you need to know and how you can get it.
I have sets of statistics already, do I need anything else? Chances are if you’re asking that question then yes, you probably do. This could be expanding what you already have or reducing what you already have, there is such a thing as overkill where stats are concerned - there’s nothing worse than paralysis by analysis!
I’m not sure my existing MI is correct. It doesn’t feel right. Good instinct and good MI should tie up, not exactly but generally point the same way at least. If your MI doesn’t feel right we will happily audit it for you.
